BCCI to Standardise Bronco, 2K Fitness Tests for Indian Cricketers
The BCCI is set to standardise Bronco and 2K fitness tests for Indian cricketers, addressing inconsistencies noted after the England tour and coaching changes.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is moving to implement a standardised fitness testing protocol for its national cricketers. This decision follows concerns regarding player fitness assessments, particularly after the Indian team's recent performance during the tour of England. The new regime aims to bring uniformity and clarity to the evaluation process across all levels of Indian cricket.
This initiative comes after a period of evolving fitness methodologies within the national squad. Last year, Adrian Leroux took over as the strength and conditioning coach, succeeding Soham Desai. Under Leroux's guidance, the Bronco test was adopted as the primary fitness benchmark, replacing the long-standing Yo-Yo test, which had been a staple for assessing player endurance and agility.
A key factor driving the standardisation effort has been an observed lack of synchronisation among the various medical and fitness teams operating under the BCCI. Reports indicate that the BCCI's medical wing, comprising experts from the Centre of Excellence (CoE) and the national team's support staff, has encountered challenges in working cohesively to assess and monitor player fitness levels effectively.
To address these inconsistencies and eliminate any ambiguity, the BCCI is now set to formalise the Bronco and the 2K test as its official fitness parameters. This move is expected to provide a consistent framework for evaluating the physical condition of cricketers, ensuring that all players meet a uniform standard and facilitating better talent management and injury prevention across the Indian cricketing ecosystem.
