Bonzo Lend Suffers $9 Million Exploit on Hedera Network Due to Oracle Flaw
Decentralised finance platform Bonzo Lend has been hit by a $9 million exploit on the Hedera network, stemming from a vulnerability in the Supra oracle system.

Decentralised finance (DeFi) platform Bonzo Lend has recently fallen victim to a significant security breach on the Hedera network, resulting in an estimated loss of $9 million. The incident involved an attacker exploiting a vulnerability within the Supra oracle verification system, leading to the manipulation of the SAUCE token's price.
The sophisticated attack leveraged a flaw in how the Supra oracle fed price data, allowing the perpetrator to artificially inflate the value of the SAUCE token. This manipulation enabled the attacker to deposit the seemingly overvalued SAUCE tokens as collateral and subsequently borrow other digital assets far exceeding their actual worth, before the discrepancy was detected.
Following the discovery of the exploit, Supra, the oracle provider, has confirmed that the underlying vulnerability in its system has been identified and promptly patched. Both Bonzo Lend and the Hedera network have issued statements reassuring their users that their core smart contracts and fundamental blockchain infrastructure were not compromised during the attack. The exploit was specifically linked to the oracle's price feed mechanism rather than the integrity of the platforms themselves.
This incident underscores the persistent security challenges within the rapidly evolving DeFi landscape, particularly concerning the reliability of external data sources like oracles. For Indian investors and participants in the global cryptocurrency market, such events highlight the critical importance of due diligence and understanding the inherent risks associated with decentralised protocols. While not directly impacting India, the global implications for trust and security in the blockchain space resonate across all markets, including the burgeoning digital asset ecosystem in India.
