Devendra Nath Mahato Joins Jharkhand Assembly Gherao, Warns Against Violence

RANCHI: Prominent leader Devendra Nath Mahato on Thursday joined a 'Vidhan Sabha gherao' (encirclement of the Legislative Assembly) march in Jharkhand, issuing a stern warning to the state government. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Mahato asserted that the administration would ultimately be compelled to address the protestors' demands, emphasising their resolute stance.

During his address, Mr. Mahato specifically urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren to exercise caution and avoid any measures that could lead to unfortunate incidents. He highlighted that the protest coincided with the Chief Minister's birthday, advising against actions that might result in injury or bloodshed, drawing a parallel to past incidents at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

The 'Vidhan Sabha gherao' is a traditional form of demonstration where protestors converge around the legislative assembly building to make their voices heard. Participants typically aim to pressure the government into acknowledging and addressing their grievances, which often pertain to various public policies, administrative decisions, or unfulfilled promises.

Mr. Mahato’s participation underscores the growing discontent among certain sections regarding the state government's functioning. His remarks reflect a clear expectation from the protestors that their collective voice cannot be ignored and that the government must engage constructively with their concerns.
