FM Sitharaman Highlights Middle Class as Engine of India's Economic Growth in France
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman underscored the pivotal role of India's burgeoning middle class in fuelling the nation's robust economic growth.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has emphasised that the substantial consumption power of India's middle class is a primary driver behind the country's impressive economic expansion. Speaking at a panel discussion held in France, Ms. Sitharaman highlighted the domestic demand generated by this demographic as a crucial factor underpinning India's sustained growth trajectory amidst global economic uncertainties.
The Finance Minister's remarks at the international forum underscored the resilience and dynamic nature of the Indian economy. She pointed out that the increasing disposable incomes and aspirations of the middle-income group are translating into significant consumer spending, which in turn stimulates various sectors, from manufacturing and services to retail and technology.
India has consistently been one of the fastest-growing major economies globally, and Ms. Sitharaman's statement reaffirms the government's view that internal demand, rather than solely external factors, provides a strong foundation for this growth. The expanding middle class, estimated to be hundreds of millions, forms a vast market that offers stability and impetus for economic activity.
Her address in France also served to project India's positive economic outlook on an international stage, inviting further global confidence and investment into the country. The focus on domestic consumption as a key growth engine signals a robust internal market that is capable of absorbing shocks and driving future prosperity.
