Hockey India President Questions Authority Over National Team Jersey Change

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey has raised serious concerns regarding the recent change in the national team's jersey colour, demanding a clear explanation for the decision-making process. Tirkey has specifically questioned the authority of the Director General in approving such a significant alteration to the team's attire.

The former Indian hockey captain expressed considerable surprise upon learning about the redesign through social media platforms. He underscored the importance of accountability and transparency within the national sports federation, particularly when it comes to decisions impacting the team's visual identity, which holds symbolic value for players and fans alike.

Tirkey emphasised that major decisions concerning the national team’s representation require proper governance and thorough consultation with relevant stakeholders. He highlighted that changes to the team's uniform are not merely aesthetic adjustments but carry a deeper significance, necessitating a structured approach rather than unilateral action.

In his communication, the Hockey India chief has formally requested a comprehensive reply, complete with documentary evidence, by Tuesday. This directive seeks to ascertain the exact protocol followed and the individuals responsible for authorising the jersey switch, aiming to ensure adherence to established procedures within the organisation.
