India Reaffirms Dialogue and Diplomacy as Path Forward in Ukraine Conflict

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently held discussions with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in New York, reiterating India's steadfast belief in dialogue and diplomatic engagement as the only viable path to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This high-level interaction underscores India's continued efforts to promote peace and stability on the global stage.

The meeting in New York comes just weeks after Mr. Jaishankar's visit to Kyiv earlier this month, where he engaged with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During both encounters, the Indian External Affairs Minister consistently emphasised the importance of de-escalation and urged for a return to negotiations to find a peaceful and lasting solution.

New Delhi has maintained a principled and consistent position on the conflict since its onset, advocating for an end to hostilities and stressing that military solutions cannot lead to sustainable peace. India's stance highlights the need for all parties to respect international law and the UN Charter, while also addressing the humanitarian impact of the war.

These diplomatic engagements reflect India's commitment to an independent foreign policy that prioritises multilateralism and peaceful resolution of international disputes. For India, the protracted conflict carries significant global implications, including its effects on energy, food security, and trade, further underscoring the urgency of a diplomatic breakthrough.
