Indian Rupee Strengthens Against Dollar Amidst RBI Support, Global Weakness
The Indian rupee gained 20 paise against the US dollar, closing at ₹94.79, supported by the Reserve Bank of India and a globally weaker greenback.

The Indian rupee demonstrated a notable recovery on Friday, strengthening by 20 paise against the US dollar. The domestic currency closed the trading session at ₹94.79, building on positive momentum observed in the preceding day. This upward movement was primarily attributed to supportive actions by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and a broader weakening trend for the American currency on international exchanges.
Analysts noted that the RBI's strategic interventions played a crucial role in shoring up the rupee's value. Concurrently, a softer US dollar globally provided a favourable external environment, making it less expensive for other currencies to trade against the greenback. This combination of domestic policy support and international currency dynamics contributed significantly to the rupee's performance.
Despite these positive factors, the rupee's potential for further gains was somewhat curtailed by escalating international crude oil prices. As a major oil importer, India's economy is particularly sensitive to fluctuations in global energy markets. Higher crude prices typically lead to an increased import bill, potentially impacting the nation's trade balance and fueling domestic inflationary pressures, thus putting downward pressure on the currency.
Interestingly, the domestic equity markets maintained an upbeat sentiment throughout the day. Indian stock indices registered positive movements, indicating continued investor confidence despite the looming concerns over crude oil. The interplay of a strengthening rupee, RBI's watchful stance, global dollar trends, and the persistent challenge of oil prices continues to define the financial landscape for Indian businesses and consumers.
