Indian Wind Turbine Makers Seek Export Incentives, PLI for Forging to Boost Global Competitiveness
India's wind energy industry is urging the government for export-linked incentives and a Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for forging units.

The Indian wind energy sector is calling upon the government to introduce targeted incentives aimed at bolstering the global competitiveness of domestically manufactured wind turbines and components. The industry body representing wind turbine manufacturers has specifically requested export-linked incentives and the inclusion of forging facilities under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
Industry leaders have highlighted that Indian manufacturers currently operate at a disadvantage when attempting to penetrate international markets. They contend that local producers do not receive comparable benefits or a level playing field when competing with global counterparts, hindering their ability to secure export orders and expand their market presence beyond India.
The proposed export-linked incentives are designed to offset these disadvantages, making Indian wind energy products more attractive to international buyers. Simultaneously, a PLI scheme for forging facilities is seen as crucial for strengthening the domestic supply chain. Forging is a foundational process for many critical components in wind turbines, and localizing its production would reduce reliance on imports, foster indigenous technological capabilities, and align with the 'Make in India' initiative.
Developing a robust indigenous manufacturing base for wind energy components is vital for India's ambitious renewable energy targets and its journey towards energy independence. Such measures would not only enhance the sector's self-reliance but also create employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and position India as a significant player in the global renewable energy supply chain. The industry believes these policy interventions are essential for unlocking the full export potential of Indian wind turbine manufacturers.
