A pilgrim died near Cheerbasa Helipad due to falling boulders, leading to the temporary suspension of the Kedarnath Yatra. Authorities have advised pilgrims to halt at safe points.

The revered Kedarnath Yatra has been temporarily halted after a tragic incident near Cheerbasa Helipad resulted in the death of a pilgrim. Authorities confirmed that the individual succumbed to injuries sustained from falling boulders, prompting an immediate suspension of the pilgrimage for safety reasons amid adverse weather conditions.
The unfortunate incident occurred in the vicinity of Cheerbasa Helipad, a crucial point along the arduous trek to the Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand. Following the fatality, district officials promptly initiated measures to ensure the safety of thousands of devotees undertaking the high-altitude pilgrimage, which is known for its challenging terrain and unpredictable weather.
In light of the suspension, advisories have been issued to pilgrims currently en route to Kedarnath. Those heading towards the shrine are strongly advised to halt their journey at designated safe points such as Sonprayag and Gaurikund. Similarly, devotees returning from Kedarnath have been instructed to pause their descent at Jangalchatti until conditions improve and the Yatra resumes.
The Kedarnath Yatra, one of the Char Dham pilgrimages, draws lakhs of devotees annually to the sacred temple nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas. While offering immense spiritual significance, the journey often presents considerable challenges due to its elevation and susceptibility to natural occurrences like landslides and rockfalls, especially during periods of heavy rainfall or unstable weather. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will announce the resumption of the Yatra once the route is deemed safe for pilgrims.
