Monsoon Havoc Grips India: Mumbai Shuts Schools, Colleges; Himachal, Kerala, Odisha on High Alert

Heavy monsoon rains have unleashed widespread disruption across India, impacting daily life and prompting authorities in several states to issue high alerts. From Mumbai, where air traffic faced significant delays, to the hilly terrains of Himachal Pradesh and the coastal regions of Kerala and Odisha, the weather office has warned of intense downpours and their potential consequences.

In Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has mandated the closure of all schools and colleges for July 6, following forecasts of extremely heavy rainfall. The decision aims to ensure the safety of students and minimise public movement during anticipated severe weather conditions. The city's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport also experienced disruptions, with several flights reporting delays due to poor visibility and adverse weather over the past day.

Other parts of the country are also bracing for the monsoon's fury. Himachal Pradesh has been placed on high alert for potential landslides and flash floods, particularly in its vulnerable mountainous districts. Similarly, Kerala, known for its heavy monsoon showers, is preparing for intense rainfall, with local disaster management units on standby. Odisha, too, is under a strict watch, with authorities readying for possible inundation in low-lying areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued advisories urging residents in affected regions to take necessary precautions, including avoiding non-essential travel and staying updated on local weather bulletins. Emergency services across these states remain mobilised to respond to any rain-related incidents, underscoring the significant challenge posed by the ongoing monsoon season.
