Punjab LoP Bajwa Stresses United Congress for Effective AAP Accountability
Punjab's Leader of Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, has underscored the critical need for a united Congress to effectively challenge the Aam Aadmi Party government.

Punjab Congress Urged to Unite for Stronger Opposition
Chandigarh: Partap Singh Bajwa, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, has called for greater unity within the state unit of the Indian National Congress. Bajwa emphasised that a cohesive Congress party would be far more effective in holding the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government accountable on various public issues and governance matters.
Bajwa's statement comes amidst ongoing political dynamics in Punjab, where the Congress, despite being the principal opposition, has faced internal challenges since its significant defeat in the 2022 assembly elections. The party is keen to rejuvenate its organisational structure and present a formidable front against the incumbent government.
According to the LoP, a united Congress would be better positioned to raise concerns pertaining to law and order, economic development, agricultural distress, and other pressing issues faced by the people of Punjab. He believes that internal cohesion is paramount for the party to regain public trust and strengthen its voice both inside and outside the legislative assembly.
The push for unity is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the party's base and prepare for future electoral battles, including the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and subsequent state polls. A strong, unified opposition is considered vital for a healthy democratic process, ensuring checks and balances on the ruling dispensation.
Political observers note that the Congress in Punjab has historically grappled with factionalism, which has often impacted its performance. Bajwa's appeal highlights the party's recognition of this challenge and its aspiration to project a unified image to the electorate, thereby enhancing its credibility as a viable alternative to the AAP.
