Rahul Gandhi Challenges Amit Shah on Accountability Amidst Student Protests

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has sharply criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his perceived silence regarding police actions against students protesting recent paper leaks at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi. Mr. Gandhi underscored the necessity for accountability from the government in addressing the grievances of the nation's youth.

The student demonstrations, primarily held at Jantar Mantar, were sparked by widespread discontent over alleged question paper leaks in various competitive examinations. Thousands of students have voiced their frustration, demanding transparency and stringent measures to prevent such incidents that jeopardise their academic and career prospects.

Adding to the criticism, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh drew parallels between the Home Minister's current stance and his response during a recent security breach incident in Parliament. Mr. Ramesh reiterated the opposition's call for greater governmental transparency and a clear commitment to addressing critical national issues, particularly those affecting the younger generation.

With the Monsoon Session of Parliament nearing its conclusion, the opposition bloc has intensified its pressure on the government. They are urging a comprehensive response to the concerns raised by the protesting students, emphasising that their demands for a fair and secure examination system must be adequately addressed before the session adjourns. The issue remains a significant point of contention in the political discourse.
