Saudi Airstrikes Kill Six in Yemen's Mokha Amid Houthi Advance
Six people were killed and eight injured in Saudi Arabian airstrikes on Yemen's port city of Mokha, following its capture by Houthi rebels.

A recent report indicates that six individuals were killed and eight others sustained injuries in Saudi Arabian airstrikes targeting the Yemeni port city of Mokha. The strikes, reportedly carried out by the Saudi-led coalition, occurred amidst intensified fighting in the strategically vital Red Sea city, which has seen fierce clashes between warring factions.
The incident follows the Houthi rebels' capture of Mokha earlier this month. Houthi forces, who exert control over significant territories in northwest Yemen, launched a major offensive against Yemeni government troops to seize the port. The Yemeni government forces receive substantial backing from the Saudi Arabian military coalition, which has been involved in the conflict since 2015.
Yemen has been embroiled in a devastating civil war for years, pitting the internationally recognised government, supported by the Saudi-led alliance, against the Iran-aligned Houthi movement. The conflict has resulted in one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, with millions facing displacement, starvation, and lack of essential services.
The escalating violence in Yemen continues to fuel regional instability, a concern for India given its considerable diaspora in the Gulf region and its critical energy imports from the Middle East. The Red Sea, adjacent to Mokha, is also a crucial global shipping lane, making stability in the area vital for international trade and India's economic interests. Continued conflict poses risks to maritime security and the broader regional geopolitical landscape.
