IN-SPACe Invites Private Sector to Operate New ₹986 Crore Tamil Nadu Spaceport
India's space sector is set for a significant boost as IN-SPACe seeks private partners to operate a new ₹986 crore small satellite launch complex in Tamil Nadu.

IN-SPACe, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre, is actively seeking private sector partners to manage and operate a state-of-the-art small satellite launch complex in Tamil Nadu. This new facility, valued at ₹986 crore, is a crucial step towards enhancing India's capabilities in small satellite missions and streamlining launch operations.
The initiative aims to significantly improve the efficiency of small rocket launches from India. The selected private entity will be responsible for overseeing all functional aspects of the complex. While day-to-day operations will be privatised, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has committed to providing comprehensive technical training and essential operational guidelines for a specified duration, ensuring a seamless transition and adherence to high standards.
This dedicated launch complex is designed to cater specifically to the growing demand for small satellite deployments. Its strategic location in Tamil Nadu is expected to provide an optimal base for frequent and agile launch campaigns, further solidifying India's position in the global space market.
The move by IN-SPACe underscores a broader governmental push to foster greater private sector involvement in India's burgeoning space economy. By enabling private operators to manage critical infrastructure like launch complexes, the nation aims to accelerate innovation, increase the frequency of launches, and offer more competitive solutions for global small satellite customers, ultimately elevating India's overall space capabilities.
