Protests Rock Ranchi Over Exam Irregularities

Students and job aspirants demanding the cancellation of the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examination and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities clashed with security personnel on Tuesday. The confrontation occurred as protesters marched towards the Jharkhand Assembly in Ranchi, resulting in at least five individuals sustaining injuries.

The demonstration is a continuation of an ongoing sit-in, where participants have been vociferously demanding accountability for reported malpractices in the recruitment process. Their primary demands include the complete annulment of the JSSC-CGL examination and a thorough investigation by the CBI to uncover the extent of the alleged fraud.

Eyewitnesses described a tense situation near the Assembly complex, where protesters attempted to breach barricades. While demonstrators claimed that police resorted to force to disperse the crowd, authorities have denied these allegations. Police officials maintained that necessary measures were taken to manage the large gathering and ensure public order without the use of excessive force. The injured individuals were reportedly transported to local medical facilities for treatment.

This escalation comes amidst significant developments concerning exam-related issues in the state. Just a day prior, the Jharkhand government had announced the cancellation of three other examinations following similar allegations of irregularities. However, the JSSC-CGL exam remains a central point of contention for the current agitation. Adding to the backdrop, a former Chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) was recently arrested in connection with separate exam-related corruption charges.
