Russia Claims Seizure of Villages in Eastern Ukraine Amidst Intense Fighting
Moscow states its forces have captured two villages, Vasyutinske and Toretsk, in eastern Ukraine, while Kyiv reports ongoing intense battles across the frontlines.

Moscow has announced that its forces have secured two villages in eastern Ukraine, Vasyutinske and Toretsk, amidst continued fierce fighting in the region. The claims from Russia’s defence ministry come as Ukrainian authorities report ongoing intense battles and attempts to repel advances across multiple sectors of the eastern front.
According to the Russian statement, Vasyutinske, located a few kilometres east of the strategically important “fortress city” of Kramatorsk, has been brought under Russian control. Separately, Russian units are also reported to have seized Toretsk, situated southwest of the city of Druzhkivka. These locations are critical points within the broader Donetsk region, a key area of focus in the ongoing conflict.
Kyiv, however, has not confirmed these specific territorial losses, instead emphasising the enduring intensity of the conflict. Ukrainian military officials have reported relentless engagements, particularly in the Donbas region, where their forces are actively working to counter Russian assaults and maintain defensive lines against persistent pressure.
The eastern front, encompassing the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, remains the epicentre of some of the most brutal fighting since the full-scale invasion began. Control over these areas is viewed as highly strategic by both sides, with any territorial gains or losses having significant implications for the broader military landscape. India, like many nations, has consistently called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, underscoring the global impact of the prolonged hostilities.
