Fissures Widen in AIADMK Dissident Camp as Key Leader Skips Review
Internal divisions within the AIADMK's dissident faction appear to be widening, highlighted by a prominent leader's absence from a key party review meeting.

The internal dynamics of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) are once again under scrutiny, with fresh signs emerging of deepening divisions within its dissident faction. This became notably apparent when former Law Minister C.Ve. Shanmugam, a prominent figure associated with the rebel camp, conspicuously stayed away from a crucial party performance review meeting held in Villupuram.
Shanmugam's non-attendance at the Villupuram event, which aimed to take stock of the party's ground-level activities and strength, stands in stark contrast to the participation of another former minister, R. Kamaraj. Mr. Kamaraj, also considered part of the broader dissident group, was present at a similar review meeting for the Tiruvarur district. This selective engagement by key members suggests a lack of unified approach within their ranks.
Meanwhile, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) continues to actively engage with party cadres and oversee organisational matters. Besides the review meetings in Villupuram and Tiruvarur, Mr. Palaniswami personally conducted assessments of the party's performance in Salem and Tiruvallur (south) districts. His consistent presence underscores the existing leadership's firm grip on the party machinery.
These recent developments hint at a potential weakening of the dissident camp's cohesion and influence. The differing stances and participation levels of its key members could further consolidate the position of the current leadership within the AIADMK. As the party navigates the complexities of Tamil Nadu politics and prepares for future electoral challenges, the unity, or lack thereof, within its various factions remains a critical factor for its trajectory.
