Supreme Court Fines Samay Raina, Four Others ₹3 Lakh Each Over Unfulfilled Promise to Disabled
The Supreme Court fined comedian Samay Raina and four others ₹3 lakh each for failing to organise a promised show for disabled individuals, previously facing court anger.

The Supreme Court of India has imposed a significant penalty of ₹3 lakh each on prominent comedian Samay Raina and four other individuals. This stringent action was taken after they failed to uphold their commitment to organise a promised performance for individuals with disabilities, a pledge made following previous judicial concerns regarding their conduct.
The group had earlier faced the apex court's displeasure over allegations of mocking people with disabilities. During the recent hearing, the bench reportedly expressed strong disapproval, accusing Raina of making false assurances and effectively "taking the judiciary for a ride" by not honouring the undertaking given to the court.
The original commitment by Raina and his associates was to arrange a special event or show specifically for the disabled community. This was intended as a remedial measure after their earlier actions drew criticism. However, despite the court's expectation, the promised show did not materialise, leading to the current imposition of costs.
In its strong observations, the Supreme Court issued a clear warning to artists and public personalities across the country. The bench underscored the imperative to treat people with disabilities with utmost respect, acknowledging their inherent dignity and talents. This ruling reinforces the judiciary's firm stance against any form of disrespect or prejudice towards vulnerable sections of Indian society.
