Telangana Pledges Swift Completion of Sitarama Project, Optimal Godavari Water Use
Telangana Minister Bhatti Vikramarka affirmed the state's commitment to expeditiously complete the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project, ensuring optimal Godavari water utilisation.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the swift completion of the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project (SRLIP), with a dedicated focus on optimally utilising the Godavari river waters. This assurance came from Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, who highlighted the state's resolve to expedite the project's remaining phases to benefit a wider agricultural populace.
The Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project is a crucial infrastructure initiative designed to provide irrigation facilities to vast tracts of agricultural land, particularly in the Bhadradri Kothagudem district and surrounding areas. Upon its full completion, the project is expected to significantly boost agricultural productivity, ensure water security for farmers, and address drinking water needs in several regions of the state. It draws water from the Godavari, a lifeline for Telangana's agricultural sector.
Minister Vikramarka underscored the importance of completing the project expeditiously, emphasising that timely execution is vital to align with agricultural cycles and provide immediate relief to farmers dependent on monsoon rains. He further stressed the need for optimal utilisation of Godavari waters, advocating for efficient water management practices to prevent wastage and maximise the project's intended benefits for irrigation and other purposes.
The state government views the SRLIP as a cornerstone of its strategy to enhance rural prosperity and strengthen the agricultural economy. By ensuring the project's rapid and efficient completion, authorities aim to secure sustainable livelihoods for farmers, reduce their vulnerability to climatic variations, and contribute significantly to the state's overall food security objectives. The focus remains on delivering the promised water resources to the last mile, transforming arid lands into fertile fields.
